FAQs

Still have questions?

Do I need coding or AI experience?

No. Many of our learners come from non-technical backgrounds. We offer beginner-friendly SPOCs and PBLs, along with mentor support.

Will I receive any instructions after booking my interview?

Yes. Once your interview time is confirmed, you’ll receive detailed preparation guidance from the admissions committee to help you get ready.

What if I don’t have a clear goal yet?

That’s completely fine. Your mentor will help you explore your interests, try different AI+X fields, and gradually define your direction.

What can a program advisor help with? Who are they?

Our program advisors are full-time team members with at least a master’s degree from top universities like Harvard University and Stanford University. They’ve helped thousands of students plan their paths—and they’re here to help you, too.

By understanding your background, goals, and questions, they can:

  • Suggest the best-fit PBL and SPOC projects
  • Help you build a strong application strategy
  • Create a learning plan that matches your goals

Not sure if you're a fit yet? They’ll be honest with you. No pressure, no wasted time—just clear, helpful advice to move forward with confidence.

Can I apply as a first-year student or a non-STEM major?

Yes. We believe AI is, or will soon be, relevant to every field. What matters most is your curiosity, willingness to learn, and commitment to grow, regardless of your year or academic background.

What should I include in my self-introduction?

You are encouraged to share your story, including but not limited to:

  • Basic Information
  • Educational History
  • Relevant Project Experience
  • Future Goals and Areas of Interest
  • Top 3 PBL Courses of Interest
  • Soft Skills
When does my plan begin?

Your plan begins when you start your first SPOC or PBL—not on the date of tuition payment.

What questions should I expect during the interview?

Expect questions about your learning goals, learning strategy, interest areas, teamwork experiences, and motivation to join the program. When it comes to discussing specific SPOCs or PBLs, questions may also touch on your existing skills or relevant knowledge.

Who can join the on-campus experience?

All learners enrolled in a 6-month or 12-month plan, or those on a month-to-month plan who have subscribed for at least 6 months, are eligible to participate.

How many PBLs can I complete in 6 months?

Most learners complete 2 to 4 PBLs in a 6-month plan, depending on your schedule and pace.

When and where do I submit my materials?
  • Live Video Interview: Email materials to application@blendedlearn.org within 24 hours of your interview with the email subject: [Your Full Name] — AI+X Research Plan Admission Application
  • Self-Paced Video Interview: Submit materials through the guided interview form.
Is there an extra fee to participate?

No additional program fee is required. The on-campus experience is included in your plan. Some optional activities, such as meals or special outings, may have minor extra costs.

Can I work on multiple projects at the same time?

Yes. "Unlimited" means you're free to structure your learning in the way that works best for you. You can participate in multiple PBL projects in parallel, as long as you can manage your time effectively within your active learning plan.

Can I submit an unofficial transcript?

Yes, unofficial transcripts are accepted.

Are travel and housing included?

No. Learners are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel, accommodation, meals, and insurance. BlendED provides optional housing recommendations for each session.

Is “Deepen Your Research” included in the plan?

Yes. Research extension sessions are fully included in all plans at no extra cost.

Do I need coding experience to apply?

No. There are no coding prerequisites. We welcome students from all academic backgrounds. Our projects have varying levels of difficulty, but our academic staff works with beginners to place them on teams with more skilled learners and prepare project leads to teach to their level. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Program Advisor.

Where do students typically stay?

During summer sessions, we often offer dormitory-style housing at partner universities. In winter, accommodations are typically arranged in nearby hotels. Availability and pricing vary by location—please ask your Program Advisor for details.

What is a PBL Evaluation Report?

It’s an optional project evaluation available upon request. If your work meets expectations, it can serve as a recommendation letter for school or job applications.

Do I need an English test score (like GRE, TOEFL, IELTS)?

No. We believe language is a vital tool for learning and connection—but it shouldn’t be a barrier to accessing opportunities in AI+X. That’s why we do not require any English test scores. As long as you’re able to learn and communicate in English—whether naturally or with the help of AI tools—you’re welcome to apply.

Is insurance required?

Yes. All participants must provide proof of valid international travel medical insurance with a minimum coverage of USD 100,000. This helps ensure you’re protected in case of unexpected health or travel-related issues during the program. We’ll provide guidance and recommended providers upon enrollment.

What will I receive upon completion?

You’ll receive certificates, a project portfolio, recommendation submissions, and full access to our AI+X Global Talent Community.

Is there an age requirement for the program?

Yes. You must be at least 18 years old to join the on-campus experience. Exceptions apply for learners who are only participating in online learning.

Do I have to be 18 years old?

Yes. You must be at least 18 years old to participate in the on-campus experience.

Can I join PBLs on my own timeline?

Yes. You can use your learner dashboard to choose project start dates that work for you.

I’m a freshman—how can I stand out when competing with more senior applicants?

You’re not at a disadvantage. Many of our participants are first- or second-year students who join to explore new fields, gain hands-on experience, and collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds. In fact, starting early can be a unique advantage—it gives you more time to build skills, clarify direction, and benefit from the experience.

Our admissions team focuses on fit, not seniority. We look at how well the program aligns with your current goals and stage of growth. We assess each applicant within the context of their background, academic year, and potential, not by comparing freshmen to seniors or professionals. Show your initiative and curiosity—we’re looking for students ready to grow, wherever they are in their journey.

Is the experience mandatory for my plan?

Not really. On-campus participation is optional for learners in 6-month or longer term plans. You are welcome to join when your schedule allows, even after your plan has ended.

What if I need to pause during my plan?

You may take breaks between PBLs if needed, as long as all learning is completed within your active plan period.

Who will review my application?

Your application will be reviewed by our admissions committee, which includes faculty, program alumni, industry partners, PBL academic coordinators, program advisors, and mentors.

What if I want to join multiple sessions?

You’re welcome to join more than one session if space allows. Please contact your Program Advisor for availability and planning support.

What if I’m in a different time zone or have a busy schedule?

Our programs are designed for flexibility. Most SPOC content is asynchronous, and many PBL meetings offer multiple scheduling options. You'll coordinate directly with your project team and mentor to find times that work for everyone.

Are seats limited every year?

Yes. To ensure a high-quality, collaborative learning experience, each PBL cohort is limited to 30 students and runs 3–5 times per year. Seats are offered on a first-come, first-served basis within the community. Once enrolled, you’ll gain access to your learner dashboard, where you can register for SPOCs and PBLs and manage your learning journey.

How is culture and campus life handled?

BlendED’s programs are rooted in respect, inclusion, and global citizenship. We choose locations that are vibrant, central, and rich in cultural and dining options. Students are expected to engage with openness and act responsibly within local laws and international community norms.

Does the plan cover my housing and travel expenses for the on-campus experience?

Program fees do not include housing or travel. For full details about logistics, costs, and support options, please refer to the On-Campus Experience FAQs.

What if there’s no exact start date for the PBL projects I’m interested in?

At BlendED, we do our best to accommodate each learner and the academic team's preferred schedule. By using the "REQUEST" function in your dashboard, you can indicate your preferred start date for the next round of PBLs. So if your desired project isn't currently open, no worries—we'll help you join the waitlist and prepare for the next opportunity.

How many hours per day are spent on learning?

Students typically spend 4–6 hours per day on project work, with the rest of the time available for local activities, networking events, or exploration.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes. We offer installment options depending on your location and payment method. Please contact us for more details.

If I’m accepted, when will my learning plan begin?

If admitted, your learning plan officially begins with the start date of your first selected SPOC or PBL, NOT at the time of enrollment confirmation.

Will I receive a recommendation for my project?

Yes. Completing the on-campus PBL counts the same as an online PBL. You’ll receive a recommendation summary report, which can later be adapted into a formal letter for job or school applications.

Can I upgrade my plan later?

Yes. You can start with the Discover Plan and upgrade to Launch or Transform as your needs and goals evolve.

Why don’t you require English test scores (GRE, GMAT, IELTS, TOEFL)?

According to UNESCO and OECD, over 70% of college students worldwide are non-native English speakers. As AI advances, we believe language should no longer be a barrier to learning AI+X together on a global scale.

At BlendED, we embrace technology. As long as you’re adaptive and able to communicate effectively—with or without the help of AI tools—you’re welcome here. What matters most is your ability to learn, contribute, and grow in a collaborative environment.
